Dear parents,

Below is the homework routine and policy for the students in our class. Each week, a grade level letter will go home to update you and your family on all of current events in the grade. All fourth graders will be expected to read 20 minutes each night and will be assigned nightly homework by their homeroom and/or science and social studies teachers. I broke down each subject below to make the expectations clear for both students and parents.

Spelling: DUE ON FRIDAYS

Your child should choose 1 spelling activity for each night. A list of choices of spelling activities are attached and will be posted on the class website. They must complete four each week (unless it is a shortened week).

Reading: READING NEEDS TO BE DONE NIGHTLY BUT THE LOG IS DUE ON FRIDAYS

There will be a reading log sent home on Mondays Students need to be reading and filling in their reading log every night. The reading is always due the following day.

Math: DUE ON FRIDAYS

Editing: DUE THE NEXT DAY, ALWAYS! (This one is a little bit different!)

Editing will be sent home on a nightly basis. All editing is due the following day. We will correct the editing in class, so each student needs to be prepared.

Remember parents, you already passed fourth grade! You shouldn’t have to be doing homework each night. If the homework seems to be too challenging week after week, please have your child let me know and we can always adjust. Alternately, if your child would like or requires an extra challenge at home, please let me know.

Choice time on Fridays: each Friday, the students earn a “choice time” in the afternoon. Choice time is earned only if students are

1.    Completing all of their homework
2.    Completing all of their morning work
3.    Not receiving any consequences for not adhering the class constitution

AVOID CONFUSION: Make sure all homework goes back and forth in the home-school folder EVERY NIGHT!!!
